Can I leave my luggage at the guest house?


If you arrive earlier than check in time or wish to explore the city on your date of departure we will store your luggage in our dining room. This is only possible after breakfast has ended (from 9:00 on weekdays and 9:30 on weekends). We take no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property, but will take considerable caution to keep all property safe.


What can I check in and by what time must I check out?


Check in is between 14:00-22:00.

Check out is before 10:00.


My coach arrives in Edinburgh at 08:00am and I will need somewhere to freshen up at this time- what can be done?


Unfortunately it is not possible for new guests to use rooms at this time, as rooms are not prepared until after check out time at 10:00am. After 9:00am on weekdays and 9:30am on weekends you may leave luggage, but you must leave the premises and return after the time directed. It is possible that your room can be prioritised so you can check in earlier than 14:00pm - you will be advised of this if applicable.


If it is very important that you check in early in the morning, you can book the room for the night before to ensure that it is ready for your arrival. Please advise if you are doing this so that we do not wait up for a check in on the wrong day! In this circumstance you may check in from 08:00am on weekdays and 8:30am on weekends.


I am attending a function on  the evening of my departure and require an extended check out, can this be done?


It is sometimes possible to negotiate a slightly extended check out (around 11:00am) however our cleaner is only available at certain times and if guests do not check out in time the room cannot be sold for the next night. In order to stay in the room until the evening it is necessary to book the room for an extra night. 


Can I smoke in the guest house?


Smoking is not permitted anywhere in Minto House. This includes rooms, toilets, the hallways and doorways.


What is included in the price of the room?


All our facilities are included in the price of the room and there are no hidden extras. This includes parking, which is free on a first come first served basis.


Do you offer Wireless Internet Access (Wifi)?


Although Wifi is not one of the facilities we provide with accommodation, we do have our own private wireless in the building. We believe this reaches all of the bedrooms, and we are usually able to give out the password to this at no extra charge. Please note that we have a ‘limited download’ broadband connection and for this reason we reserve the right to withhold the password if we have reached our broadband limit.


If you need to know for definite before your arrival whether it will be available, let us know and we can give you the answer in advance.


Do you provide telephones in the rooms?


No, we do not provide telephones for the use of our customers. This helps to keep our costs down, allowing us to pass this saving on to you.


Can I bring my pet to the guest house?


Unfortunately we do not allow guests to bring pets with them.


I’ve missed the first night of a multi night stay- will be booking be cancelled?



If you are not able to make your first night you should contact us as soon as possible. We can then discuss whether you would like us to try to sell the room on your behalf. Unless we sell the room again you will need to pay for your entire stay if you do not cancel the room within the cancellation period.
